According to the MPP press release, it signed licences with Aurobindo (India), Desano (China), Emcure (India), Hetero Labs (India), Laurus Labs (India), Lupin (India) and a new partner, Zydus Cadila (India). Aurobindo signed two new sub-licences for lopinavir and ritonavir (both HIV treatments) for Africa. Desano, a Chinese manufacturer and Emcure also signed licences for those treatments. Aurobindo also joins six other companies in the manufacturing of daclatasvir (hepatitis C treatment), the MPP said. Hetero signed sub-licences for atazanavir, a second-line antiretroviral, and raltegravir for paediatric use. Laurus signed an agreement to produce daclatasvir and Lupin for paediatric raltegravir. And the Zydus group “has now joined MPP’s growing network of generic suppliers with a sub-licence for daclatasvir as well,” according to the release. “The MPP’s 13 generic manufacturing partners are currently working on more than 60 projects to develop crucial treatments for both children and adults in developing world settings,” said MPP. The sub-licensing agreements can be found here. It was unclear at press time what effect, if any, this will have on the high price of hepatitis C medicines in developed countries or to which countries the deals apply. But an MPP representative told Intellectual Property Watch: “Each sub-licensing agreement covers a specific territory as defined in the annex of each agreement. The main licencing agreements signed with the respective originator companies are available at the following page: http://www.medicinespatentpool.org/current-licences/” Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to email this to a friend (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Related "Generic Manufacturing Deals For HIV And Hepatitis C Treatments Signed At Medicines Patent Pool" by Intellectual Property Watch is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
