CEIPI Celebrates 5oth Anniversary With Major Conference

CEIPI logoThe highly esteemed Center for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) in Strasbourg will mark its 50th anniversary this week with a conference featuring the top names in the European IP community.

Below is the press release announcing the event:

Conference CEIPI / 27-28 November 2014 Council of Europe, Strasbourg

“Perspectives for the Intellectual Property System in a Globalized World”

At the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Center for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) organizes an international conference on the topic “Perspectives for the Intellectual Property System in a Globalized World”. This event will be held on November 27th and 28th, 2014 in Strasbourg at the Council of Europe.

The aim of this event is to bring together high-ranking IP officials and representatives of public institutions, renowned IP scholars, professionals and representatives in IP intensive industries, for an exchange of perspectives on past and present changes, with the objective to map ways for future development of the European and international IP systems in a globalized world. Following the event, the proceedings will be published in an anniversary volume.

– The three thematic parts of the conference will be opened by keynote speeches of the highest representatives of the major organizations in the area of intellectual property:

– Mr. Benoît BATTISTELLI, President of the European Patent Office (EPO)

– Mr. António CAMPINOS, President of the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM), President of the Administrative Board of the CEIPI

– Mr. Francis GURRY, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Former President of the Administrative Board of the CEIPI.

Moreover, the opening addresses will be delivered by Mr. Yves LAPIERRE, Director General of the French Industrial Property Office (INPI), Mr. Alain BERETZ, President of the University of Strasbourg and Mr. Christophe GEIGER, Director General of CEIPI.

Symbolically, this event will be hosted by the Council of Europe, the birthplace of the 1963 Strasbourg Convention, the first European convention on substantive patent law harmonization.
