Numerous Side Events At WIPO General Assembly This Week

A number of side events have been scheduled during the annual General Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization this week. The range of events are organised by WIPO as well as governmental and non-governmental organisations working in areas such as WIPO programmes, public health, finance, copyright, geographical indications and innovation.

The 54th WIPO General Assembly is taking place from 22 to 30 September.

According to a draft list published by WIPO, the following side events will be held next week:

Several exhibitions will also be launched next week: a Polish exhibition on porcelain design, to be open until 17 October, a South Korean exhibition on Funds-in-Trust, open until 2 October, and a Portuguese exhibition on port wine, open until 3 October. And WIPO will hold an event tonight launching the new conference hall.

  • Tuesday 23 September – 1 to 3 pm – Panel discussion on “A Sustainable Future for Authors,” organised by the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) and WIPO, with the participation of high-level guest speakers (WIPO AB Building Room A).
  • Tuesday 23 September – 1 to 3 pm – Briefing session on “Advancing Innovation, Access and Public Health through Patent Licensing and Technology Transfer,” organised by the Medicines Patent Pool (WIPO New Building Room 0.107).
  • Wednesday 24 September – 1 to 3 pm – Workshop on “IP as an Enabler for Innovation Finance in Business,” organised by the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO), the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China (SIPO) and WIPO (WIPO New Building Room 0.107).
  • Wednesday 24 September – 1 to 3 pm – Workshop on the Lisbon System (Appellations of Origin) “Taking Stock of the Practice and Exploring New Perspectives,” organised by the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the UN Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva, the Portuguese Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), oriGIn and WIPO (WIPO AB Building Room B).
  • Thursday 25 September – 1 to 3 pm – Panel discussion on “Framing Dreams – How Film and TV Producers use the Copyright Framework,” organised by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) with the participation of three experienced audiovisual producers from Africa and Europe (WIPO New Building Room 0.107).
  • Thursday 25 September – 1 to 3 pm – WIPO information session on the launch of the “WIPO Pearl Terminology Portal,” organised by the WIPO PCT Translation Service (WIPO AB Building Room B).
  • Friday 26 September – 1 to 3 pm – WIPO information session on “Increasing Diversity in WIPO,” organised by WIPO Human Resources Management Department (WIPO New Building Room 0.107).
  • Friday 26 September – 1 to 3 pm – Panel discussion on “Sports & Entertainment: New business Models, New Technologies…New Legal Needs,” organised by the Ibero-American Broadcasters Alliance (WIPO AB Building Room B).
