Andrès Ycaza, executive director of Ecuador’s intellectual property office, signed the Marrakesh Treaty on the side of an extraordinary session of the WIPO General Assembly, which reappointed Francis Gurry as the head of WIPO. The signing takes the number of countries that have signed the Marrakesh Treaty to 65 of WIPO’s 187 members. The treaty will enter into force three months after 20 parties have deposited their instruments of ratification or accession, which none has done so far.
