They also made recommendations to establish global mechanisms, including a binding global instrument for R&D and innovation for health. The second meeting of the Consultative Expert Working Group on Research and Development: financing and coordination (CEWG) took place on 7-8 July (IPW, WHO, 5 July 2011). Six proposals were determined to fall outside the scope of the CEWG criteria, according to a summary of the meeting [pdf], while some proposals were deemed to meet most of the criteria, and a longer list met fewer criteria. Some proposals were considered as meeting most criteria but the CEWG needs to do some work on them, according to the summary. Regional consultations will be held in August and September and the third meeting of the CEWG will take place on 17-18 November.
