The TRIPS Council “special session” is an ongoing negotiation on a multilateral system for notifying and registering geographical indications for wines and spirits, under the Doha Round of negotiations. Geographical indications are place names that are used to identify products with special characteristics linked to these places. The TRIPS Council meets on 26-27 October, followed by a meeting of the TRIPS Special Session on 28 October, according to a source.
