At this meeting WIPO was expected to present a study on the relationship between regional systems for the protection of geographical indications and the Lisbon System, the possibility of future accession to the Lisbon Agreement by intergovernmental organisations, and the results of a survey on the Lisbon System. The Lisbon System is a register for the international protection of appellations of origin. The working group held its first session in March 2009 and is “responsible for exploring possible improvements to the procedures under the Lisbon Agreement.” See the report of the first meeting here [pdf].
