Wunsch-Vincent has a background in intellectual property issues, and at the OECD was in charge of innovation and information and communication technology issues for six years. During this time he also undertook a project on copyright and digital content. Prior to joining the OECD, Wunsch-Vincent was the Swiss national science fellow at the University of California Berkeley Centre for Law and Technology and a visiting fellow at the Institute for International Economics in Washington, DC.
