Prior to joining the WTO, Lamy was Commissioner for Trade at the European Commission, and also previously served as CEO of the bank Credit Lyonnais prior to its privatisation and worked in the French civil service. At the WTO General Council on 29 April, Lamy reiterated his “deep belief in the primary purpose of the WTO, which is to open trade for the benefit of all.” There are four key areas that the WTO needs to strengthen in order to achieve this purpose, he added, according a copy of his speech available on the WTO website. These are: delivering on the current Doha round of trade liberalisation negotiations, improving implementation of existing agreements, increasing communication and cooperation both between departments inside the WTO and between the WTO and other multilateral institutions, and boosting outreach. sugiartosetiabudi says 08/07/2010 at 7:57 am At Pascal Lamy second four years terms as Director General WTO,there is important things appears due to his wrong decision to be member of Thomson Reuters Founder Share Company Limited. Pascal lamy has made big mistake joined to the Thomson Reuters Founder Share Company Limited. Reuters has legacy poor corporate governance and culture of ethical failure in doing business. I believe ,Pascal Lamy will face conflict of interest to convey vision and objectives of WTO at emerging markets or countries. Unquestionble ,Pascal Lamy has great capital knowledge and experiences ,but his credibility and integrity is questionable. WTO needs people who have unquestionable credibility and integrity as well to convey its objectives in effrctive way rather than people with questionable credibility and integrity. I need to generate awareness to the emerging markets or countries in order to deter unethical and inappropriate business conduct operate in legitimate manner by wrongful inducement , shopping rubber stamps, and deceptive devices. Integrity and credibility should be placed at first stage prior to discuss any matters. Reply
