The Free Software Foundation has announced an updated list of high priority projects on a global scale. Top priorities now include a free software phone operating system, clouds, hardware, voice and video chat, inclusiveness, security and internationalisation of free software. The announcement is available here. It includes a link to the new list. The update followed feedback from about 150 free software community members over the past year. FSF isn’t seeking to run or control the projects, but will encourage them whether they are under their auspices or not, they said. “The High Priority Projects initiative, first launched in 2005, draws attention to a relatively small number of projects of great strategic importance to the goal of freedom for all computer users,” said the release. “The list serves to foster work on projects that are important for increasing the adoption and use of free software applications and free software operating systems. The list helps guide volunteers, supporters, and companies to projects where their skills and resources can be utilized, whether they be in coding, graphic design, writing, financial contributions, or activism. We hope that you can find a project here where your skill, energy, money, and time can be put to good use.” A separate changelog for the list is available, starting in 2017. The FSF is committed to ongoing evaluation of and updates to the High Priority Projects list, it said, adding, “Please email any suggestions you have about the list to hpp-feedback@gnu.org so that they can be incorporated by the review committee in the future.” Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to email this to a friend (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Related "Free Software Foundation Makes ‘Major Overhaul’ In High Priority Projects" by Intellectual Property Watch is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
