The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) was released today. The document titled, “Mainstreaming the Economics of Nature: as synthesis of the approach, conclusions and recommendations of TEEB,” calls for better recognition by decision-makers of the economic value of nature and its contribution to human livelihoods. Hundreds of delegates gathered this week are discussing the planet’s biodiversity at the Convention of Biological Diversity’s 10th Conference of Parties meeting. The study is an international initiative to put the global economic benefits of biodiversity into the light and show the growing cost of biodiversity loss. The TEEB advisory board includes NGOs, academics, UN agency representatives, such as Ahmed Djoghlaf executive secretary of the CBD, according to the TEEB’s website. Funders include the UN and several European governments. To read the TEEB report, click here.
